The UAE Climate-Responsible Companies Pledge program is an initiative by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment aimed at expanding the climate activities of the United Arab Emirates in response to the call of the Glasgow Climate Pact – the outcome of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) – to achieve higher greenhouse gas emission reduction targets by the year 2030.

Her Excellency Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Almeiri, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, in her address at the 12th Session of the NDCA, which was held under the theme “Innovative Financing through National Carbon Registry”, highlighted the importance of the National Carbon Registry, an innovative initiative designed to provide an unprecedented level of transparency, reliability, and efficiency in managing the issuance of carbon credits.

To achieve this goal, the Ministry has established a strategic partnership with the technological partner, INDUSTRIAL INNOVATION GROUP, a company with extensive and unparalleled experience in implementing global-scale innovative projects. This blockchain-based revolutionary system will further demonstrate the United Arab Emirates’ commitment to sustainable values and solidify its position as an unwavering leader in environmental preservation.

Her Excellency Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Almheiri expressed her gratitude for IIG’s invaluable contribution to this critical initiative: “And I want to also thank all the private sector and also my partners here, Industrial Innovation Group, who are also working with us on the carbon registry.  Thank you so much Taryam, for you and your team’s efforts in this.  It’s the first time we’re going through something like this. If we succeed in establishing this carbon registry, it will be the first in the region.”

The 12th NDCA was focused on exploring the implementation of the carbon registry and provided an overview of its role in registering and distributing carbon credits within the country.

Eng. Now, the National Carbon Registry, or NCR, is a pivotal advancement in our region, as Her Excellency has mentioned. It provides a structured and transparent framework for registering carbon offset projects and issuance of carbon credits within the United Arab Emirates.
